TEMPE, Ariz – Publicity pamphlets will be mailed to each household with a registered voter Feb. 4 and early ballots will be mailed beginning Feb. 10 for the city’s March 8 General/Special Election.

The deadline for voter registration is Feb. 8. All registered voters on the Permanent Early Voter List will automatically be sent an early ballot.

Two early voting sites will operate in Tempe from Feb. 16 through March 4:

  • Tempe Public Library, 3500 S. Rural Road. Hours are Monday through Wednesday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Thursday and Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Palo Verde West (Room 181) on the ASU Tempe Campus, 330 E. University Drive. Hours are Monday through Wednesday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Thursday and Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Parking in ASU’s Fulton Center garage will be validated for up to one hour.

The names of one Mayoral candidate and six City Council candidates will appear on the ballot. In addition, a city Charter amendment, Prop 485, will appear on the ballot. It proposes to lower the campaign contribution amounts a candidate can accept.

There will be one election in the spring rather than a Primary Election and a General Election. According to a city Charter amendment approved by voters in 2012, if no more than two candidates file nomination petitions for each vacancy, the city does not have to hold a Primary Election. In that case, the General Election can instead be held on the date the Primary Election would have been held.

Offices to be filled through the March 8 election include the Mayor and three City Council seats. The certified candidate for Mayor is Mark Mitchell. Certified candidates for City Council are: Phil Amorosi; Irina Baroness von Behr; Ernesto Fonseca; Kolby Granville; Randy Keating; and Joel Navarro. Elected candidates will be sworn in to four-year terms in July.

Vice Mayor Corey Woods is not seeking re-election to the City Council.

Election details, including candidate contact information, voter registration and more are available at www.tempe.gov/election.

Presidents Message – September 2015

Convention is a week away! Seemed like this last year has been a blur trying to prepare for this very special event.

Thanks to the hard work of everyone, TRW has received confirmation that we will be recipients of the Gold Award from AzFRW and the DIAMOND award from NFRW. Woo-hoo!!! Good job to everyone who helped to make this happen. Both the state and the national federation have some very particular criteria and we scored very high with these awards.

Some of you may or may not be aware that we will be voting on some big changes at both the state and national convention, including new board members and a new AzFRW President! At our September meeting, us who are delegates and attendees will deliver a recap of the exciting and important events that took place. There are a lot of interesting (and controversial) issues being addressed at this convention, so trust me when I say you won’t want to miss our September meeting.

AzFRW and NFRW Conventions around the corner

Are you planning to attend the conventions this year? Check out the AzFRW Convention schedule so that you can plan your time. Then, the NFRW Convention, will bring together nearly 1,300 Republican women who are political and business leaders in their communities and states for three days of planning, education and networking at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort and Spa in Phoenix.
